Safes testing burglary resistant EN-1143-1
Safes testing is the activity of safes cracker expert to prove that the safes have achieve certain level of security. Safes and strongroom are having burglary resistances, and EN 1143-1 call it "RU" resistant units which are determining of the net time needs to make an access hole into the barrier construction of safes or strong room in the attack test, with considering of the tool coefficient and total basic value, which the tool coefficient always uses the highest value among the attack tools used.
Where;
- RU instead of time which; Allows to “Weight” tools, avoids wrong interpretation of time- lab time, calculate attack time for a given tool/method attack.
- C; Tool coefficient are representing likelihood of attack being detected, noise, smoke, fumes and other effects (See ‘tool catalogue) the conversion of the coefficient is RU/minute
- BV; Basic Value are represent; obtaining the tools on the site, transport and set-up, skills & experience that required to handling the tool, and limitation of number of tools usages.
- Attack time= Elapse time measure just when the tool attacking the test sample (could be complete safes or panel test construction) counted in minute
There are 2 type of access in the standard;
- Partial access; is the access hole that been made to the body wall safes but in the limit only enough to insert the hand into the safes or the hole size 125 sqcm, it can be square hole or circular
- Complete access; is the access hole that been made to the body wall safes which big enough to access whole inside the safes which in this case is door open or make access hole with 1000 sqcm, it can be square hole or circular
Example calculation;
Complete access test penetration to the wall construction safes or panel test, which consists of outer lining, concrete and inner lining.
For attacking test the outer lining and the inner lining we choose torch with supply oxygen 200l/min which in category C.11 in the tool list, which, the BV=14, C= 10 RU/min
To removing the concrete we choose electric braking hammer which in category C.9 in the tool list, which, the BV=25, C= 10 RU/min
We determine that we will make complete access for this test.
See the table bellows;
Table 1. Barrier penetration recording table
The total time needed to make complete access is 15.3 minutes, the total basic value is 14+25 = 39, and the highest tool usage coefficient is 10 (coincidently all this chooses tool having coefficient 10 RU/min).
RU = (15.3 x 10) + 39 = 192 RU for complete access (CA)
Refer to EN 1143-1 resistance classes in the table bellow;
The above wall construction of the safes is achieving grade IV European standard for burglary resistant.

Calculation of attack time for a specific tool/method
Some specific tool/method are commonly used to high graded product.
How Grade VI safes, against an attack with diamond drill 2200W, with hand hole or partial access.
